- The Digital Design Center, a collaborative center jointly housed in CDes and CSE, has awarded Computational Creativity Grants to four interdisciplinary projects:
- “Bio-inspired daylighting as a design driver for health & sustainable performance: Integrating virtual reality with computational design tools” by co-PIs Professor Mary Guzowski (Architecture) and Professor Victoria Interrante (College of Science & Engineering)
- “Bridging the gap: Harnessing the benefits of physical and virtual spaces in game design” by co-PIs Professor Sauman Chu (Graphic Design) and Professor Stephen Guy (College of Science & Engineering)
- “Augmented reality assisted reductions of embodied carbon in buildings” by co-PIs Professor Malini Srivastava (Architecture) and Professor Victoria Interrante (College of Science & Engineering)
- “Expanding the material language for place-based data visualizations using digital fabrication + prototyping” by co-PIs Professor Daniel Keefe (College of Science & Engineering) and Professor Jessica Rossi-Mastracci (Landscape Architecture)
- Associate Professor Malini Srivastava (Architecture) has been named a recipient of a 2023–24 Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate and Professional Education. This honor is awarded to exceptional candidates who have been nominated by colleges for excellence in graduate and professional education. Those who receive the Graduate and Professional Teaching Award become members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and are given the title of Distinguished University Teaching Professor.
- Heritage Students and Public History students Jessie Merriam, Ayaan Natala, Hibaa Roba, Jade Ryerson, Angel Swann, and Carissa Thomas received the National Council on Public History's Student Project Award for their work on the Bring Back 6th Mobile Museum. This exhibition premiered on May 15, 2022, at an outdoor street festival sponsored by Our Streets Minneapolis and included seven panels detailing the little-known history of the thriving Black and Jewish neighborhood that stood in the area before it was leveled to create the city’s first “super-highway.”
- Assistant Professor Carlye Lauff (Product Design) was awarded the designation of McKnight Land-Grant Professor. The goal of the McKnight Land-Grant Professorship Program is to advance the careers of assistant professors at a crucial point in their professional lives.
- Professor Tasoulla Hadjiyanni's (Interior Design) exhibition When Places Speak - Athens+Piraeus is now a digital exhibit. When Places Speak is part of a global photography exhibit that sheds light on places caught in sexual exploitation. You can also view her panel discussion on anti-trafficking efforts in Greece.
- Gloria Vázquez Ibarra (Architecture/Landscape Architecture) received a Summer 2023 UROP award with Associate Professor Laura Musacchio (Landscape Architecture) as her faculty mentor. Their research study, "Using Different Visual Methods to Document Biophilic Experiences in Campus Design", is part of Musacchio's larger research project about biophilic campus design at the University of Minnesota.
