John Howe (1913-1997), was a charter member of the Taliesin Fellowship and Frank Lloyd Wright's chief draftsman for nearly three decades. He was known as "the pencil in Frank Lloyd Wright's hand." During WW II, Howe served nearly three years in prison for refusing induction in the military due to his pacifist views. While in prison, he created a host of innovative, visionary projects, none of which were built. He later established an independent career in Minnesota where he practiced residential architecture for twenty-five years.
