Design Justice Liaison for Product Design

Dr. Ji Youn Shin is an Assistant Professor of Product Design at the University of Minnesota. She received her PhD from the Media and Information department at Michigan State University. Her research is situated at the intersection of HCI, Design, and Healthcare with an emphasis on incorporating patients' and families’ experiential knowledge and existing assets in technology design that can enhance their health and wellness. By drawing out participants’ experiences through participant-centered design processes, she has provided her participants with opportunities to share their strengths and knowledge in designing technologies. Ji Youn’s research outcomes have been published in top venues in the field, including JMIR (Journal of Medical Internet Research), IJHCI (International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction), EAI Pervasive Health, CHI (Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems), and CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work), where she received a Best Paper Award and a Best Paper Honorable Mention Award. She earned her Master of Design in Integrative Design at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and Master of Design and Bachelor of Fine Arts at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea.
