What is UROP?

Overview

The University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial awards twice a year to full-time undergraduates for research or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member.  

UROP provides stipends of up to $1500 and research expenses of up to $300 for undergraduate students working with a University of Minnesota faculty mentor. Undergraduates enrolled in at least 6 credits in any college on any campus are eligible to apply. Eligible faculty mentors are faculty members holding any type of appointment (including clinical, emeritus, adjunct, research associate, etc.) in any college on any campus.

Application Process

1. Review application information and materials 
2. Find a faculty mentor in the College of Design UROP Opportunity Gallery (listed below)
3. Write a research proposal
4. Submit your UROP application materials and proposal
5. Watch for an email notification

Students and faculty mentors will be notified of the status of UROP proposals by email within 6-8 weeks of the submission deadline.
