Center for Sustainable Building Research Announces Exhibition on Biophilic Design

May 3, 2022

Biophilic design focuses on increasing the connection between humans and the natural environment through the design of spaces. This fall, the Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR) will host an exhibition on biophilic design featuring images submitted through Instagram.

“We wanted to solicit examples of biophilic design from the public to gauge public understanding of biophilia and biophilic design,” explained Jennifer Preuss (Architecture). “The final exhibition will focus on the history and theory of biophilic design in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and related fields as well as its connection to health and equity.”

People can share their photos of how they incorporate nature into their everyday life and design work by posting them on Instagram with the tag #umnbiophilicdesign. Photos must be taken by the individual posting it and should not include any faces. If a photo is selected, a member of the CSBR exhibition team will reach out for permission to share it on the College of Design’s Instagram account and include it in the final exhibition.
