ABOUT THE PROJECT

Bogs are beautiful, bouncy and filled with blueberries, and yet barely anyone knows about them, or understands how critical they are for our climate future. They are a unique type of wetland, placed under the category of peatlands, and they are great at capturing our carbon. Covering only about 3 percent of the earth's surface, peatlands hold over 30 percent of the earth's soil carbon, making them a massive carbon sink! In this project the spotlight is pointed at a specific canadian boreal bog; Burns Bog in British Columbia. By examining past and future threats to the bog this project speculates on how its restoration and protection could be used as a tool to create a space for people to learn all about bogs, from their carbon capturing abilities to their crazy carnivorous plants.
