Fabrication Shops
Policies and Procedures
Our most important task is to minimize the inherent dangers of shop use, thus minimizing the likelihood of any mishaps. The Workshop User Handbook includes an introduction to safe practice and equipment usage. All shop users are expected to read, understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined within the Workshop User Handbook. User training is provided on a one-on-one basis as needed. Users MUST consult with a shop technician before undertaking any unfamiliar activity. Failure to abide by policies and safe operating practices may result in suspension of shop access priveledges at the discretion of any Shop Technician.
In consultation with the University's Office of Risk Management it has been determined that use of the Fabrication Shops for non-academic purposes exposes the University to unnecessary risk and does not serve the mission of the University or the College of Design. All shop use must be directly related to CDES courses or activities. Any activity not associated with CDES course assignments must have prior approval from the DesignFAB Director.
