This exhibition, curated by Terresa Hardaway and Jessica Garcia Fritz, explores historical and contemporary impacts of built and visual environments on movements for Indigenous sovereignty and Black liberation. The installation features commissioned work by 20 Black and Indigenous women and femme-identifying artists with ties to Minnesota, who were invited to create original artworks from second-hand denim jackets. Their collection represents interconnected themes across these movements and is organized according to the artists’ visual references to various eras, from the 1700s to imagined futures.

Culminating the curators’ multi-year research project, the exhibition also features large-scale portraits by photographer Clarke Sanders, a takeaway zine including a Resist & Reclaim curriculum, and a collaborative denim patch activity.

Featured artists: Kprecia Ambers, Aonehc Aonehc, Raquel Banaszak, Leslie Barlow, Heart Berry, Silent Fox, Jessica Garcia Fritz, Aleksandra Gurneau-Jacobs, Terresa Hardaway, Carla Hamilton, Maiya Lea Hartman, Leeya Rose Jackson, KSBLUE, Joy Spika, Kelsi Sharp, Maggie Thompson, Thomasina Top Bear, Moira Villiard, Precious Wallace, Ohiyá Iš Walker.
