DESIGN FORWARD engages College of Design community members in service projects that help improve the quality of life for members of our communities.
Bring your family and friends and join members of the College of Design community for a day of service in the Twin Cities area during Homecoming week in the fall and National Volunteer Month each April.

College of Design-hosted site with Great River Greening: 10 AM –2 PM

Wear your maroon and gold and join fellow Gophers from coast to coast for an Alumni Day of Service, and make a difference in your community. College of Design alumni and friends are invited to convene at the college-hosted Twin Cities project site or dozens of other sites in Minnesota and across the country, at a location that fits your interest and availability. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, family, friends, and colleagues are all welcome. Share your stories and photos #DayofServiceUMN
This program is FREE, but space is limited at project sites and registration is required to help with planning.

Great River Greening “Podcast”
Saturday, September 29, Time: 10 AM – 2 PM
Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area 6690 East Viking Boulevard, Wyoming, MN 55079
Improve the natural habitat for pollinators!
Join us for this family-friendly event as we partner with Great River Greening at the Carlos Avery State Wildlife Management Area in Wyoming, MN just 35 minutes from the Twin Cities. Volunteers will release milkweed seeds through a “podcast” and plant pollinator friendly plugs including common, butterfly, and whorled milkweed at the Sunrise Unit. This event is occurring during waterfowl hunting season, although far from the popular game area. Orange safety vests will be provide to volunteers.
Light breakfast, snack, and lunch provided. All ages welcome, children must be supervised.
20 participant maximum for our group. Pre-registration is required.

Blanket Drive for Bridging
Can't make it to the project site?
The College of Design is also hosting a blanket drive for Bridging from September 24 - October 7. You can participate by donating new and gently-used blankets of all sizes (twin, full, queen, or king) to help Bridging furnish homes with hope!

Through the effective reuse of donated items, Bridging improves lives by providing quality furniture and household goods to those transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. Driven by volunteers and donations of furniture and household goods from the community, Bridging has furnished over 75,000 homes since 1987. In addition, they provide 400 individuals with blankets each week. You can help! Learn more about Bridging at bridging.org.
