Presented by the Design Student & Alumni Board (DSAB).
DESIGN FORWARD engages College of Design community members in service projects that help improve the quality of life for members of our communities.
Bring your family and friends and join members of the College of Design community for a day of service in the Twin Cities area during Homecoming week in the fall and National Volunteer Month each April.
Spring 2018 Project
Design Forward: Service by Design
Saturday, April 21, 2018 | 1–3 PM
REGISTRATION REQUIRED: z.umn.edu/DFwd2018
What we'll be doing:
We'll be working side-by-side with youth employees to scoop fresh dough, hand decorate cookies, and assemble bakery boxes. Assisting with cookie production gives you the opportunity to talk with teens, hear about their experience at Cookie Cart, and share your story on how you found your career path.
Participants will receive a Design Forward t-shirt. Please indicate your preferred size or "no t-shirt" when registering for the event.
Attire: Volunteers are asked to dress for comfort since they will be on their feet while working in the bakery. The Cookie Cart will provide aprons, hairnets, and rubber gloves. The College of Design will provide t-shirts to those who request one when registering. Open-toed shoes are not allowed. Large pieces of jewelry may need to be removed. There is storage on site where volunteers can lock up belongings; cell phones should not be brought into the kitchen.
Directions/Parking: Cookie Cart is located between Fremont and Emerson on West Broadway Avenue at 1119 West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis. Free parking is available in a lot directly behind the building, and also on Emerson and Fremont. If parked in the back, volunteers can enter the building through the Cookie Cart's back door by ringing a buzzer.
Arrival: Upon arrival, volunteers will check in at Cookie Cart's lobby where they will sign in, get a nametag, hairnet, and apron, and then meet youth staff who will take them on a brief tour before they get started in the bakery.
