Since 2011, apparel design students have been designing clothing and everyday accessories for orphans in Haiti, Uganda, India, Tanzania, and South Africa. Under the leadership of Dr. Lucy Dunne, Assistant Professor in Design, Housing, and Apparel at the College of Design, third- and fourth-year students in this technical design studio learn about entrepreneurship, production management, and the social impact of design. The College has found that service learning is a significant driver for students and when students experience the broad impact of their work they are motivated even more in their academic and professional pursuits.
