Bachelor of Science
The Interior Design program is a professional program that is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
Interior design students study design fundamentals, theory, process, communication, research, and technology to identify and solve problems related to humans and their use of interior space. The program focuses on improving the quality of life and protecting human health and safety through design of the interior environment. Students design various types of interiors, such as hospitals, offices, schools, residences, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment facilities.
Students are initially admitted to the one-year pre-interior design program where they begin with courses in fundamental aspects of interior design. Upon completion of the foundation level courses, students must participate in a competitive portfolio review, which upon passing they advance to the interior design major where they take intensive design studios and content courses. As part of their requirements, all interior design students must complete an internship.
NOTE: The design studio courses in the program are sequenced over eight consecutive semesters (four years) regardless of the number or types of courses that were completed prior to the term of admission. However, students who transfer to the program with many or all of their liberal education courses completed may be able to enroll at a reduced credit load in their 3rd and 4th year of the program (see sample four year plan). This allows students to work in the field and gain significant experience in design.
