How does fall 2008 transfer orientation work? In June, if you have paid your enrollment confirmation fee we will send you an invitation to your REQUIRED orientation session sometime in mid-July or the first three weeks in August.
In the morning session (sponsored by staff in CDes), you'll...
- Find out how your courses transfer to the University and to your degree program
- Meet with an adviser in your major
- Register for fall 2008 classes
In the afternoon session, sponsored by Orientation and First Year Programs (OFYP), you'll have the choice to attend various workshops. Check out the Orientation and First Year Programs transfer orientation Web site for more information. Consider doing ONLINE ORIENTATION in place of the afternoon programs.
After you've submitted your RSVP and online survey please complete these tasks before coming to orientation...

Only RETAIL MERCHANDISING and ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (design track) students who have not taken a college algebra class or higher are required to take a College Algebra placement exam. Instructions for students who (appear to) need to take the exam were sent with the orientation letter. Contact me if you’ve received instructions but think you don’t need to take the exam. Deadline completion of the exam is Friday, July 18.
Transcript tip
Be sure to have a final transcript sent to the U of M admissions office with all final grades for any past transfer courses you took. If you completed the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MNTC) be sure the transcript that is sent to the U of M has that notation on it. Otherwise, your record here won't reflect that your generals are waived until we receive this transcript. It can take the U of M as long as two months to process a transcript once it reaches us, so don't be concerned if you get to orientation and your record doesn't reflect all the transfer courses you took. You should always carry an unofficial copy of every transcript you have (and bring this to orientation).
