The College of Design's Digital Collections and Archives Unit (DCA) is a resource for digital content production and description for teaching and research. Services are available to all CDes faculty, students, and staff by consultation.
Currently 80,000 of the 300,000 35mm slides in the archive have been scanned and cataloged, and are available for download as part of the Digital Content Library, a collaboration between CDes and CLA which is open to the entire University community. In addition to the conversion of the slide archive to digital format, the collection continues to grow through requests and donations (see Services and Support). Images are available for educational use consistent with the fair use provisions of U.S. copyright law.
What’s new this semester in the Digital Content Library?
- Images and original drawings from Robert Roscoe, architect of the Milwaukee Avenue Restoration project.
- Images donated by Julie Bargmann containing an in-depth documentation of mining across the country.
- Expanded the collection of digital images on subjects such as ancient Chinese architecture and Renaissance Italy.
What are we currently working on?
- Digitizing our extensive collection of Lantern Slides, starting with images of the 1937 Paris World’s Fair.
- Will soon have the ability to upload videos, allowing for streaming videos played through the DCL.
