LIBRARY GALLERY EXHIBITION

The Beauty that Requires Health: Four Landscapes
Regina Flanagan '01 MLA
September 15, 2016 - January 8, 2017
Opening Reception | Friday, September 16, 4:30 PM
Architecture & Landscape Architecture Library Gallery, Rapson Hall, Second Floor

The land ethic of Aldo Leopold and philosopher Marcia Eaton's assertion in her essay "The Beauty that Requires Health" that art with landscape as its subject has an ethical obligation to reveal underlying functions motivate Regina Flanagan's longitudinal study of four landscapes in transition. The narrative arc of natural forces and human actions are observed in photographic series of a floodplain forest, an old-growth big woods forest, an oak savanna, and the aftermath of a major fire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
