College of Design Computer Standards for Students

Each year, College of Design faculty select computer and software options that are the best fit for the coursework and projects in major. Requirements and recommendations vary by major. Please view the 2017-2018 Computer Standards.

Initiate Your U of M Internet Account and U of M Email

Once you confirm your enrollment, it is very important that you (1) initiate your U of M Internet account right away by visiting www.umn.edu/initiate and (2) set up your U of M email account by clicking here. Once you have confirmed your enrollment, U of M email is our official means of communication with you. Be sure to check it often for important information.

Orientation

Transfer orientation includes both online and on-campus programs; completion of both are required in order to register for the coming term. Orientation will be held in early January. Details will be sent to students who have confirmed their enrollment.

Transfer Coursework

After you confirm your enrollment, the Office of Admissions reviews your transfer courses to determine transferability into the U of M for credit as well as for applicability to fulfill Liberal (General) Education requirements. You will receive a transfer credit report that outlines the outcome of that course review. This report will not outline applicability of transfer studio coursework to meet requirements in our sequenced design studio majors. If you have studio courses (e.g., drawing, two-dimensional design, etc.) that may meet major requirements, you will be contacted by cdesinfo@umn.edu with information on how to submit your work for review. Note: It is not common for faculty to approve transfer courses to meet upper division major requirements.
